Vistry Group has announced the commencement of an affordable housing project at the former Bedworth Bowling and Rugby Club site in England, UK.

The project is a collaboration with Midland Heart and Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council (NBBC).

Last November, NBBC approved Countryside Partnerships, a division of Vistry Group, for this development.

NBBC Strategic Housing assistant director Jane Grant said: “We are looking forward to the delivery of much-needed affordable homes, homes that will be available for local people in housing need.

“NBBC greatly appreciates its partnerships with developers and housing associations who are committed to developing in our borough, supporting our affordable housing ambitions.”

The site, spanning 7.4 acres, is located between Dalton Road, Rectory Drive, Down Meadow, and Smarts Road.

The bowling greens were last operational in 2020, and the site's rugby club moved to a new location in 2017.

The latest development will see the construction of 122 new homes.

Vistry North West Midlands managing director Phil McHugh said: “It was an honour to welcome our partners from Midland Heart and NBBC to the former Bedworth Rugby Club site to celebrate the start of work on the development.

“Helping communities thrive is a key part of our ethos, and we’re delighted to start to unlock this disused site, and build new, high-quality, affordable homes for local people.”

Midland Heart Finance & Growth executive director Joe Reeves will take ownership and management responsibilities for the properties upon their completion.

The site is located approximately 1.2 miles from the Bedworth railway station and has 31 primary schools and six secondary schools within a three-mile radius.

This month, Vistry Group also secured an agreement with O&H Properties for an 11.6-acre site in Great Haddon, Cambridgeshire.

The plans include the construction of 178 new family homes.
