US-based Holocaust Museum LA has commenced construction on a significant extension project of its Pan Pacific Park complex in Los Angeles, California, US.

The expansion is designed by Belzberg Architects' founding partner Hagy Belzberg and is named the Jona Goldrich Campus.

The extension will double the museum’s current footprint and boost visitor capacity, meaning it can encompass more student visitors.

The expansion will feature innovative technologies for preserving Holocaust survivor testimonials, as well as places for temporary and travelling displays.

Holocaust Museum LA CEO Beth Kean said: “Holocaust Museum LA is digging in with its shovels and our hearts to continue building an institution dedicated to eradicating all forms of antisemitism and hate through education and enlightenment.

“We will continue to honour both the memories of those who perished and our beloved survivors, whose courage, determination, strength and resiliency remind the world that we must never forget the critical lessons of the past.”

The updated Pan Pacific Park will include outdoor reflective spaces, expansive galleries and classrooms, a theatre for survivor talks, film screenings, concerts, conferences, public programmes, and a holographic exhibition that includes a conversation with a virtual survivor.

The 'Flame of Courage', which was revealed during a ceremony honouring Arnold Schwarzenegger, will also have a permanent home on the new campus.

The campus is scheduled to open in 2025.
