Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center (HMETC) has broken ground on its new research centre in the Rhine-Main Metropolitan region of Germany.
HMETC serves as the hub for the European research and development (R&D) division of Hyundai Motor Group.
The new R&D facility is scheduled to open in 2025.
The new 25,000m² buildinf is said to be twice the size of HMETC's current office and research space.
It will include energy-efficient and renewable energy systems, in line with the group's aim to minimise its carbon footprint and endorse zero-emission solutions.
It will also create additional job opportunities across various roles, the company noted.
HMETC aims to advance sustainable transportation by creating electric vehicles (EVs) with advanced technology.
It is also focused on developing new mobility solutions designed for its European customers.
The new laboratories at the site are expected to concentrate on technological advancements, comprising the development of driver-assistance systems, infotainment features, and electrification.
The site will encompass a 4W NVH Dyno, which can measure an entire vehicle lineup in one place.
Last month, Hyundai Motor Company marked the commencement of construction of a new EV facility within its Ulsan complex in South Korea.
The EV plant will be built on a 548,000m² site with an annual production capacity of 200,000 EVs.
