Sports contractor Hellas has installed Matrix Helix, a synthetic turf system at Vero Beach High School's football stadium in Florida, US.
Vero Beach High School now boasts one of the first synthetic turf fields along the Treasure Coast of Florida, spanning from Palm Beach County through the Space Coast in Brevard County.
Hellas has also contributed to phase one of the school's athletic upgrades by installing six beach volleyball courts.
Meanwhile, phase two of the development involves new construction and upgrades, including a track system and Z600 LED Sport lighting.
Due to poor drainage infrastructure and regular rainfall on Florida's coast, the school was claimed to have faced challenges with field conditions before adopting this synthetic turf system.
Hellas also installed a Wave Sports Pad to aid drainage and provide further shock absorption for athletes on the field.
The contractor used Ecotherm infill to maintain a comfortable and safe playing surface, keeping temperatures cooler than traditional infill in the process.
Vero Beach High School athletic director Lenny Jankowski said: “Our players are thoroughly impressed and excited. This has been a phenomenal surface to play on.
“We could not be more pleased with the performance of our Hellas field.”
The second phase is set for completion by early 2024.
