Halcrow, a company owned by Jacobs, in joint venture with AECOM, has received a consultancy agreement for the initial phase of the San Tin Technopole in Hong Kong.

Awarded by the Civil Engineering and Development Department, this development aligns with the Hong Kong 2030+ Study's initiatives to enhance the built environment.

The consultancy encompasses a development plan for a 250 hectare area within the Northern Metropolis.

The scope of Halcrow and AECOM's consultancy includes design review, detailed design, tendering, as well as construction supervision.

It will also include engineering of infrastructure such as roads, bridges, drainage systems, sewerage, waterworks, pumping stations, reservoirs, and a common utility tunnel.

San Tin Technopole aims to establish an international innovation and technology hub, providing facilities for technology development, housing, community, and commercial use.

The project will implement an integrated low-carbon infrastructure system, alongside digital strategies such as building information modelling and digital twins.

It aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

The San Tin Technopole project is set to be executed in stages, with the first population and business intake anticipated in 2031.

Jacobs Asia vice-president Sinead Giblin said: “We continue to play a vital role in Hong Kong’s transformation – from supporting the delivery of critical transport infrastructure, reimagining urban landscapes and built environments, to safeguarding the city’s future.

“This appointment provides us the opportunity to build on that knowledge and experience, to create vibrant communities and places, and help meet Hong Kong’s long-term housing, social and economic needs long into the future.”

In July 2024, Jacobs was appointed to provide programme management and consultancy services for King County Wastewater Treatment Division's infrastructure upgrade project.
