Construction company Hadden Group has been selected as the contractor for the Double Dykes Traveller site upgrade in Ruthvenfield, Scotland, UK.

The group has been appointed following a tender process.

The £4m ($5.09) project, majority funded by the Scottish Government, will replace 20 chalets with new energy-efficient accommodation and include major site improvements on the Traveller site.

Perth & Kinross Council secured £3.9m from the Scottish Government's Gypsy/Traveller Accommodation Fund, covering 60% of the project costs, with the council providing the remainder.

This initiative aligns with the 2019 ‘Improving the Lives of Scotland’s Gypsy/Travellers Action Plan', aimed at enhancing accommodation for the community.

The upgrade will feature the construction of new chalets, installation of modern utilities, and various site enhancements.

These enhancements include new fencing, roadway improvements, LED street lighting, and superior drainage systems.

Renewable energy sources such as solar panels will be used for heating and hot water systems, with the potential for the site to achieve net-zero status.

Additional developments include a play park with seating, a playing field, communal areas, and a community garden.

The initiative involves thorough consultation and engagement with residents.

Perth & Kinross Council and Hadden will engage with the community to discuss individual chalet requirements.

Perth & Kinross Council Housing and Social Wellbeing convener and councillor Tom McEwan said: “This work will totally transform the lives of Double Dykes residents. The existing chalets at the site have been in place for some time and the replacement accommodation will be modern and energy efficient, helping residents to save on their bills.

“The replacement programme will be carried out in four phases to minimise disruption to residents, and we plan to be on-site later this year.”
