Ground has been broken for the Stråket residential block at Kallebäcks Terrasser, Gothenburg, in a ceremony that saw the participation of Johannes Hulter, chair of the City Planning Committee of Gothenburg, and Hans Wallenstam, CEO of Wallenstam, a company that builds and develops properties.

The project is situated in a central location along Kallebäcks Torggata, next to the Lackarebäck hill in Sweden.

The development will see the construction of 177 apartments, ranging from studio to three-bedroom units.

The apartments are expected to be ready for occupancy in 2027.

Hulter said: “Gothenburg needs more rental apartments for families, young people, the elderly, everyone. We know that Gothenburgers want to live in pleasant urban spaces, with services and entertainment close to home. Here, Wallenstam manages to achieve both of these things - new rental apartments and lively streets.”

The Stråket block, which will feature light Nordic colours and materials, has been designed by Noi Arkitekter, with construction led by Peab Sverige.

The project will feature a large courtyard that will include a playground, grill area, and space for bicycles.

The six blocks at Kallebäcks Terrasser have already welcomed new tenants, and the seventh block, Torget, which is reportedly the 'tallest' building in the area, has also started the first phase of occupancy.

All apartments are being allocated through Wallenstam’s free housing queue.

Work on the entire Kallebäcks Terrasser district began in 2019, and once completed, the area will feature nearly 2,000 new homes, a school and preschool, offices, restaurants, cafés, and local services.

Hans Wallenstam added: “It feels really fantastic to start another project here in Kallebäcks Terrasser. Six years ago, we held the ground-breaking ceremony for the whole area.

"The site that once belonged to the old Arla factory has now been transformed into a modern and welcoming area with soon almost 2,000 apartments, a school, preschool, offices, restaurants and cafés. The pulse of the city and the tranquillity of nature meet here in the best possible way.”
