Granite has been awarded a contract valued at roughly $65m by the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) to begin the second phase of the State Road 30 (SR-30) Improvement Project in Logan, Utah, US.

The project, which is funded by the UDOT and federal funds, was included in Granite's second-quarter committed and awarded projects.

Granite Regional Operations vice-president Jason Klaumann said: “The successful completion of Phase 1 in 2023 positioned us as the low bidder for Phase 2, ensuring our structures, pipe, and earthwork crews will remain engaged through late 2024 and most of the 2025 season.

“Our team is excited to continue working with UDOT Region 1 and deliver these critical improvements for the Logan community.”

The SR-30 corridor serves a range of traffic, including the public, agricultural machinery, horses, cyclists, and pedestrians.

The enhancements will include a 12ft-wide multiuse path with a cast-in-place concrete box underpass, wider shoulders, dedicated turning lanes, and advanced warning signs for railroad crossings.

Additionally, the project will introduce two new precast box culverts and expand one concrete girder bridge to better accommodate the Logan River/Cutler Marsh area, among others.

The planned improvements aim to enhance safety and traffic flow for all users.

The second phase of the SR-30 Improvement Project commenced this July and is anticipated to be completed by December 2025.

Earlier this month, Granite was chosen as the construction manager at-risk for the Arlington Avenue Bridges Replacement Project in downtown Reno, Nevada.

This project, with an estimated value of approximately $32m, focuses on replacing two bridges over the Truckee River that are currently considered structurally deficient.
