The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has granted construction company Granite a contract to widen and enhance the State Route 108 (SR-108) in Davis County, Utah, US.

This contract has an estimated value of around $45m.

The project is financed by state and federal sources. Granite will include this project in its third quarter committed and awarded projects.

Its scope covers the expansion of SR-108 from 300 N to 1800 N, along with converting it from a three-lane asphalt roadway to a five-lane Portland Cement Concrete Pavement (PCCP) road.

The project also involves significant renovation and expansion works that include replacing and upgrading all utilities and infrastructure components.

These improvements will help deliver a transportation corridor that is safe, quick, and better connected.

The installation of 10,000 feet of storm drainage systems, 7,000 linear feet of irrigation infrastructure, 2,000 linear feet of water main infrastructure, and 2,000 feet of sewage main upgrades are among the significant improvements.

Granite plans to employ 48,000 tonnes (t) of untreated base course, 21,000t of concrete sand and 16,000t of concrete aggregates from its neighbouring South Wells facility to ensure the project’s effective completion.

In addition, 2,000t of hot mix asphalt will be sourced from the nearby West Haven facility. This approach streamlines the acquisition of essential materials from the firm’s neighbouring facilities.

Granite Regional Operations vice-president Jason Klaumann said: “By widening and enhancing the SR-108 corridor in this area, we are taking substantial steps to alleviate traffic congestion problems.

“Additionally, we are making provisions for enhancements in active transportation and implementing significant safety upgrades.”

Construction work will commence in October 2023 and be completed in November 2025.
