Granite has secured a contract to construct the next segment of a 40-mile pathway from Palm Springs to Thermal in Coachella Valley, Southern California, US.

Valued at around $20m, the contract has been awarded by from the Coachella Valley Association of Governments (CVAG).

Granite previously completed an on-street section of the CV Link in Palm Desert in 2021, aligning with its local market strategy and reinforcing its presence in the Coachella Valley.

The latest project will complete segments in the Palm Springs and Cathedral City cities, with funding provided by the CVAG.

It will be included in Granite’s second-quarter committed and awarded projects.

The multimodal pathway aims to provide a route accommodating pedestrians, bicyclists, and low-speed electric vehicles, alleviating vehicular traffic.

It will enhance community connectivity and offer residents an alternative to outdoor activities.

Granite’s Desert Cities Asphalt Plant will supply some materials for the project.

Work is scheduled to commence this month and reach completion by July 2025.

Granite Regional Operations vice-president Bill Moore said: “Granite has been a proud member of the Coachella Valley community since 1992 and is honoured to be a part of this transformative project.

“We have a long history of constructing projects for both the City of Palm Springs and the City of Cathedral City, and much of our craft workforce that will construct this project resides right here in the Coachella Valley.”

Earlier this month, GKJV-II, a joint venture with Kraemer North America, secured a $113m contract from the Michigan Department of Transportation for replacing the Lafayette Bascule Bridge in Michigan.
