Granite, in collaboration with Obayashi Corporation under the Granite-Obayashi 2 joint venture (JV), has been awarded a contract for the construction of new facilities at US Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz (MCCB) in the territory of Guam.

The funding for this project is provided by the US Department of Defense's military construction programme and will be reflected in Granite's third-quarter committed and awarded projects.

The contract, worth approximately $113m, entails the construction of low-rise buildings for the Marine Expeditionary Force's 9th Engineer Support Battalion.

These structures will be built with reinforced concrete for the frames, walls, floors, roofs, and shallow foundations.

The development will include facilities such as an auto organisation shop, an electrical/communications maintenance shop, organic storage, a vehicle wash rack, and a vehicle laydown area.

Construction is scheduled to commence next month, with an anticipated completion date in January 2027.

This initiative represents the second construction effort by Granite at MCCB.

Granite Regional Operations vice-president Curt Haldeman said: “We are honoured to continue our partnership with NAVFAC [Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command] Pacific on this critical mission.

“This contract not only strengthens our relationship with NAVFAC Pacific but also reinforces our role as a key contributor to the successful realignment of Marines from Okinawa to Guam.”

Last year, Granite secured a contract from NAVFAC Pacific to construct buildings and infrastructure at the site.

This project helped the US Marines relocate from Japan to MCCB.
