Granite Construction has secured the civil work contract for the first phase of the Mosaic Quarter development, a sports and entertainment-focused lifestyle centre, in Tucson, Arizona, US.
This entails an approximately $27m subcontract for general contractor Hensel Phelps.
The development is poised to become a hub for residents and visitors, offering modern venues for a variety of sports, including ice hockey, basketball, and football.
The Mosaic Quarter project, located near South Kino Parkway and Interstate 10, is a keystone project for the City of Tucson, Pima County, and Southern Arizona.
The Mosaic Quarter development will develop, fund, and operate the project.
Granite Regional Operations vice-president Derek Betts said: “Since March of 2023, our Arizona Region has provided Hensel Phelps with design-assist services and cost model development essential to the civil site work package.
“With design complete and construction agreements in place, the team is excited to finally begin construction of this marquee project for the community.”
Granite's Swan Plant, situated in proximity to the project, will supply essential materials for construction.
The list includes 32,000 tons (t) of aggregate base for car parks, roadways and building bases; 14,000t of sand for utility bedding, backfill, and shading; and 20,000t of asphalt for roadways.
The first phase of Granite's work commenced earlier this month and is anticipated to be completed by August 2026.
The award has been included in Granite's fourth-quarter committed and awarded projects.
Last month, Granite initiated the construction phase on the Atlantic Base Refurbishment (ABR) project in Seattle, US, with an investment of approximately $45m.
The ABR project aims to revamp the six-acre electric trolley bus parking and maintenance facility operated by King County Metro, enhancing the infrastructure to meet modern standards.
