GRAHAM breaks ground on regeneration project in Bletchley 

The project will encompass 200 new council homes, a nursery, a community centre, and retail space.

Construction company GRAHAM has broken ground on a regeneration project for the Lakes Estate in Bletchley, UK. 

GRAHAM was appointed by Milton Keynes City Council for the project following an intensive two-stage tender process using the Pagabo major works framework. 

The project, which has been initiated with a sod-cutting ceremony, is claimed to be Milton Keynes City Council’s first regeneration project for the Lakes Estate. 

The company will be responsible for building approximately 200 new council homes, a nursery, a community centre, and retail space as part of the project.  

GRAHAM Building South managing director Jonathan Hall said: “This sod-cutting ceremony marks a landmark moment in the rejuvenation of the Lakes Estate.  

“GRAHAM is delighted to be on-site and look forward to building new homes and facilities that will enhance the well-being and vitality for the residents and local community." 

The project has been shaped in close collaboration with Milton Keynes City Council and the area's community. 

Planning permission for the Lakes Estate was granted in March 2022, after a comprehensive community engagement process that began in 2017. 

A subsequent ballot in 2018 saw 93% of voters in favour of demolishing Serpentine Court to pave the way for the estate's redevelopment. 

The development is set to provide residents with energy-efficient housing options, addressing the needs of those awaiting new council homes. 

Some public realm enhancements have already been completed, including four new play parks and improvements to existing courtyards. 

Milton Keynes City Council Housing and Healthy Communities cabinet member for Adults and councillor Emily Darlington said: “This is a really proud moment for the community. The Lakes Estate is the biggest project in our history and a perfect example of how the community can work with the local council to deliver positive change.” 

The financial backing for this project comes from the council's investment of approximately £70m ($88.39m) and is also supported by a grant of just under £15m from Homes England.
