GRAHAM Construction, the main contractor of the project, has delivered the practical completion of the second building on the Candleriggs Square site in Scotland, UK.

The £81.5m ($104.04m) build-to-rent (BTR) scheme is a part of the £300m Candleriggs Square development plan being undertaken by Drum Property Group and Stamford Investments’ joint venture (JV).

The JV first bought the site in March 2019.

The 3.6-acre Candleriggs Square site is said to be a part of Glasgow’s Merchant City regeneration.

Drum Property Group managing director Graeme Bone said: “Candleriggs Square is now starting to come alive, fulfilling the development vision we outlined when we first took ownership of the site in 2019.

“With the completion of the L&G [Legal & General] apartments and the opening of The Social Hub Glasgow, we are seeing this vital part of the city centre, which had lain dormant for more than 20 years, take shape in spectacular fashion.”

The completion of the latest phase allows L&G, which forward-funded this phase, to move forward with the internal fit-out of the second building on the site.

First residents are expected to move in later this year.

Designed to cater to the growing demand for affordable, high-quality rental accommodation in Scotland's city centres, the latest scheme spans 325,000ft² and offers 346 apartments.

Additionally, it includes a variety of retail and commercial units at ground level.

It also includes an entrance lobby on Glasgow’s Trongate leading to a communal landscaped courtyard on the first floor while several roof terraces offer views of Glasgow.

GRAHAM Building North construction director Jimmy House said: “Standing at 17 storeys at its highest point, Candleriggs Square will become a focal part of the city’s skyline, reinstating the Merchant City as a destination of choice for people to live, work and socialise.

“Today’s handover of the 346 BTR apartments represents an important milestone for the project, and we are pleased to have completed works ahead of schedule.”

Last month, GRAHAM commenced work on the multimillion-pound fit-out of telecommunications company BT’s new office in Dundee, Scotland.
