GRAHAM has been selected to upgrade Aurs Road between Barrhead and Newton Mearns in Glasgow, Scotland.
The £22.68m ($28.54m) project will be carried out in collaboration with East Renfrewshire Council.
The development is being financed by £12.72m from the Glasgow City Region City Deal.
It will also receive funding from the UK and Scottish Government and Transport Scotland's scheme through Sustrans' Places for Everyone programme.
The project aims to improve the current winding and narrow road between Barrhead and Newton Mearns by straightening out parts of it and replacing the weak bridge.
It will include a 2km active travel route connecting Barrhead and Newton Mearns to Dams to Darnley Country Park, along with a waterside promenade overlooking Balgray Reservoir.
This travel route is expected to serve as a secure link for walking and cycling.
Additionally, a new 4km circular route around Balgray Reservoir will be created for park visitors.
Construction work on the project is scheduled to begin on 8 January 2024.
East Renfrewshire Council leader Owen O'Donnell said: “I’m delighted that work will be starting in January on the ambitious Aurs Road project.
“The delivery of a much improved and straightened road with active travel link - improving connections between Barrhead and Newton Mearns is fantastic news for our communities.”
GRAHAM contracts manager Jim Armour added: “We’re delighted to be appointed by East Renfrewshire Council to deliver the Aurs Road project.
“The upgrade of Aurs Road will transform this route for everyone, improving connections between Barrhead and Newton Mearns, providing a dedicated pedestrian, and cycling route around Balgray Reservoir - paving the way for new facilities in the future.”
The road will be closed for approximately 12 months until December 2024 to accommodate the improvements, meaning Barrhead's Springfield Road intersection to Newton Mearns' Stewarton Road intersection will be inaccessible.
However, alternative routes will be available through Stewarton Road, Nitshill Road, and Darnley Road.
The award of this project comes shortly after GRAHAM completed the construction of a water storage tank project at Fofanny, County Down, Northern Ireland, earlier this month.
