GLP has commenced earthworks at its Landriano site, in the Italian province of Pavia, and laid the first pillar of its Grade A warehouse facility.  

The company engages in the construction, ownership, development, and operation of logistics real estate, data centres, renewable energy, and associated technology. 

The project will be constructed on a 55,000m² plot that was acquired by GLP in December last year near the A1 motorway in the region and will comprise a leasable area of 17,000m². 

It will be developed in partnership with general contractor Engineering 2K. 

The facility aims to achieve the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) ‘Excellent’ for new construction protocols. 

The building will include a range of energy-efficient features. 

These encompass insulated facades and roofs, environmentally friendly refrigerant gases for air conditioning, a smart building management system, and utility monitoring meters. 

Preparations for photovoltaic solar power on the roof and the installation of charging points for electric vehicles will also take place.

GLP Italy country director Marco Belli said: “In Landriano we are starting our first 2024 construction project. 

“Our second project will start in the province of Bergamo. Customers are showing interest in the new building, which, in line with our development strategy, in addition to its excellent geographic location, will be built to the highest environmental standards.”  

Last week, the company commenced construction of a new energy-efficient warehouse development near the eastern border of Warsaw in Poland.   

The project aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by incorporating heat pumps, smart metering systems, enhanced insulation, and more.
