The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and the State Road and Tollway Authority (SRTA) have selected a consortium for the construction and operation of SR400 Express Lanes project in Atlanta, US.
The consortium comprises Acciona, ACS Infrastructure, and Meridiam, each holding a one-third stake.
It will manage the design, construction, financing, operation, and maintenance of the highway expansion for 55 years.
The SR400 is a north-south link connecting Atlanta's business districts with Fulton and Forsyth counties' residential areas.
ACCIONA and Dragados will jointly handle the construction of the infrastructure.
Each will be responsible for 50%, adding two express lanes over a 16-mile stretch between North Springs Station and north of McFarland Parkway.
The project also involves introducing 0.9-mile express lanes in both directions between McGinnis Ferry Road and McFarland Parkway.
It includes refurbishing several bridges such as those at Pitts Road, Roberts Drive, and Kimball Bridge.
A toll system will be implemented to enhance traffic flow.
Construction will use advanced technology, including traffic forecast models and radar, to minimise disruption.
In a separate development, ACCIONA and its partners achieved financial closure for the Interstate 10 Calcasieu River Bridge project in Louisiana.
This includes a total investment of $3.37bn and a construction budget of $2.27bn.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has entrusted Calcasieu Bridge Partners (CBP) with the project, which involves replacing a bridge more than 70 years old and reconstructing a six-lane interstate motorway.
Members of CBP include ACCIONA (with a 30% stake) in partnership with Plenary Americas (with 40%) and Sacyr (with 30%).
ACCIONA and Sacyr, forming a joint venture, will manage the design and construction, including the implementation of a free-flow toll system and the demolition of the existing bridge.
Last month ACCIONA used an HP SitePrint robot for the construction of the Alentejo Central Hospital in Évora, Portugal.
