Galliford Try has secured a contract to construct permanent accommodation for Great Park Academy in Gosforth, Newcastle, UK.

The UK Department for Education-run scheme will be managed by Gosforth Group Academy Trust and is set to feature a three-storey new build.

Gosforth Group board of trustees chair George Snaith said: “I am delighted that Galliford Try is taking on this important and much-needed school-building project.

“Great Park Academy is already well-established in its temporary home, and I am confident that it will go from strength to strength when it occupies its new home next year.”

The 1,200-place secondary school will feature teaching spaces designed to be diverse, flexible, and functional, catering to subjects such as sports, music, art, and drama.

It will also include a learning resource centre and a sports hall with a dedicated community entrance, as well as special educational needs and disabilities support spaces.

In addition, the project encompasses the enhancement of the site's existing soft landscaping.

Galliford Building North East and Yorkshire managing director Cliff Wheatley said: “We're looking forward to delivering facilities that will benefit Great Park students for generations to come.

“During our time on site, we’ll also provide important work experience for young people in the area and support those interested in a career in construction.”

Construction is expected to be completed by mid-2025.

The school intends to open its doors to students at the start of the new academic year in September 2025.

This development comes shortly after the UK’s National Highways revealed that it trialled new compaction technology on the A303 upgrade scheme undertaken by Galliford Try Infrastructure last month.

The trial is aimed at enhancing construction speed and safety on road sites.
