Construction company Galliford Try’s Building North West business has secured a contract for the redevelopment of Castle Hill Primary School in Todmorden, Calderdale, UK.

The project, awarded through the Department for Education's (DfE) Construction Framework 2021, is part of the School Rebuilding Programme.

It will see the creation of a modern, Net Zero Carbon in Operation school to serve future generations.

The project involves replacing the current two-block school with a single, 'state-of-the-art' building, uniting all students under one roof.

Designed for accessibility, the new school will offer level access throughout the site, focusing on both internal and external mobility challenges.

Reflecting the school’s vision of ‘Building Independence, Broadening Horizons, Brightening Futures', the redevelopment aligns with the DfE's goal of creating ‘Schools for a Better Future'.

The design of the new school draws inspiration from the original Victorian Castle Hill School, preserving the site’s heritage while providing a sustainable learning space.

Galliford Try Building North West managing director Darren Parker said: "We are delighted to be working with the Department for Education on this transformative project for Castle Hill Primary School. Our focus is on delivering a high-quality, sustainable building that meets the needs of pupils, staff, and the wider community, ensuring a positive and lasting impact for generations to come."

Earlier this month, the UK’s Defence Infrastructure Organisation awarded a £65m ($81.2m) contract to Galliford Try to construct single living accommodation at Royal Air Force Digby in Lincolnshire, England.

In December 2024, Galliford Try’s Building London and South East Commercial business obtained two contracts in London, totalling £86m.
