Construction work has officially commenced on the new Faifley education and community campus in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire, Scotland, with a ground-breaking ceremony.

The event was attended by representatives from Morrison Construction and local council chairs, among others.

Morrison Construction Building Central managing director David Ewing said: “We were pleased to be joined by councillors [Clare] Steel and [David] McBride for our ground-breaking at the site of the future Faifley Campus.

“This is an exciting project that will provide state-of-the-art educational facilities for the local community, and I look forward to seeing the works progress over the coming months.”

This follows the announcement by developer Hub West Scotland of its appointment by West Dunbartonshire Council in April 2024.

Hub West Scotland also revealed the selection of Morrison Construction as the main contractor.

The Hub team comprises Holmes Miller Architects, Sussed Sustainability, Atelier Ten, Cowal Design Consultants and Faithful+Gould.

The campus will feature the new Edinbarnet Primary School and the Auchnacraig and Lennox Early Learning and Childcare Centres.

It will comprise an additional support needs base, a new community library, an education resource centre and facilities to replace the Skypoint Centre.

The facility will also have an all-weather sports pitch and an external multi-use games area.

Drawing inspiration from the Cochno Stone, a Bronze Age rock formation located in Faifley, the campus's design will incorporate materials that reflect the area's heritage.

The project, with a budget of £35m ($44.08m), is being funded through the Scottish government's learning estate improvement programme.

It is expected to take more than two years to complete.

In February 2024 Morrison Construction’s Building Central unit won a contract to construct the Whitecraig Primary School in East Lothian, Scotland.
