Eiffage and Acciona to build Madrid’s new F1 urban circuit

Scope of work involves the development of new roads and facilities dedicated to sporting events.

A consortium comprising Eiffage, through its subsidiary Eiffage Construcción, and Acciona has secured a contract to design and construct Madrid's new urban circuit intended for Formula 1 races.

The project is valued at €83.2m ($95.4m), with Eiffage's portion amounting to €33.3m.

The scope of work under this contract encompasses the full range of temporary infrastructure services from construction, assembly, and dismantling to the post-event rehabilitation of streets and utilities.

Additionally, it involves the development of new roads and facilities dedicated to sporting events.

The project, backed by fair organisation IFEMA Madrid, is situated in the northeastern part of the city.

The consortium commits to the project's environmental goals by proposing the repurposing of approximately 700,000m³ of soil from excavation works, of which 60% will be used on-site while the remaining 40% will be recycled at other locations in the future.

The consortium plans to reduce CO₂ emissions at the site by using hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) in construction machinery and applying photocatalytic substances to road surfaces to cut gas emissions.

To endorse rainwater infiltration and replenish water tables, it will implement a sustainable urban drainage system.

In addition, the project will transplant 583 trees and install 4,259m² of portable acoustic barriers in noise-sensitive areas.

Construction activities are scheduled to begin in April 2026 and conclude in time for the Spanish Grand Prix next summer.

Eiffage Construcción has experience in sports infrastructure development, resurfacing the Jerez Circuit for the MotoGP World Championship in 2009 and laying the track in Carmona.

Recently, Eiffage Construction completed the conversion of the former Courrier Picard headquarters in Amiens, France, into a residential project called ‘Recto Verso’.
