Egis has secured a contract from the Al Madinah Region Development Authority (MDA) for the Madinah Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project in Saudi Arabia.

This initiative is a part of the Pilgrim Experience Programme, aligned with the kingdom's Vision 2030 goals.

Egis's mandate includes project management and construction management (PMCM) services.

The BRT project includes plans to establish up to 500 stations and achieve 80-90% area coverage by 2030.

It further aims to upgrade the public transportation network, as well as facilitate seamless travel for visitors and reduce traffic congestion.

It also intends to offer a secure and environmentally friendly transport option for residents, tourists, and pilgrims alike.

Egis, in a joint venture (JV) with SYSTRA, will oversee the implementation of the Madinah Bus Network, encompassing BRT, priority bus, and feeder services.

The responsibilities extend to engineering supervision, design, construction, testing, and operation phases.

The JV’s role further encompasses safety and security management across all system components.

This includes buses, depots, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and operational systems.

The JV will also oversee civil works, which involve bus lanes, stations, stops, footbridges, and park-and-ride facilities.

Egis Middle East and South Asia transportation director Omar Benzaria said: “This project aligns perfectly with Egis' core expertise in transportation infrastructure, and we are committed to delivering a sustainable and efficient BRT system that meets the needs of Al Madinah's residents and visitors.

“This partnership reflects our shared commitment to leveraging specialised global knowledge for sustainable transportation development, supporting Saudi Vision 2030’s goals of economic diversification and enhanced connectivity.”

In June this year, Egis was appointed as the lead consultant for the Abou Qir Metro in Alexandria, Egypt.
