Egis, an architecture and construction engineering company, has been appointed as the lead engineering consultant for the Dh10bn ($2.7bn) Dubai Exhibition Centre (DEC) expansion in Expo City Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

This expansion is set to offer 180,000m² of purpose-built exhibition space for events.

Egis will bring its experience to the forefront of this extensive development.

The company is tasked with a broad spectrum of responsibilities, encompassing architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) design.

The project's scope also extends to value engineering, sustainability, and legal compliance, with a focus on integrating building information modelling for precise project execution.

The expansion will extend the DEC over a 1.2km stretch, positioning it as a premier destination for international events.

Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) Real Estate Development assistant vice-president Amer Al Farsi said: “Aligned with Dubai’s 2040 Urban Master Plan and building on DWTC’s existing regional leadership and world-class event hosting facilities, Dubai Exhibition Centre (DEC) expansion will drive the next stage of MICE [meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions] sector evolution.

“The DEC master plan will see the venue expanded over three strategic phases which will bring the total amount of indoor exhibition space to 180,000m2, featuring 26 halls on a single contiguous level that spans 1.2km, with the ability to hold one mega event or multiple events simultaneously.”

Egis is developing a 'Sustainable Materials Strategy' and ensuring adherence to green standards to obtain Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.

The project will incorporate advanced sustainable features, including renewable energy systems, eco-friendly materials, and waste management strategies, aligning with international best practices.

In May this year, Egis acquired UK-based property and construction cost and project management consultancy Thomas & Adamson.
