Day & Zimmermann’s (D&Z) maintenance and construction division has secured a contract to provide maintenance and modification (M&M) services for US government-owned power provider Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA).

The company will perform M&M for all of TVA's hydroelectric dams, gas, coal, and pumped-storage hydroelectricity facilities.

D&Z union operations president Jason Dunaway said: “As a strong utility partner, D&Z is vested in the Tennessee Valley's prosperity - its people, its community, and its energy needs. We hold longstanding relationships with union labour leaders at the local levels and have a proven track record of safety and developing skilled craft professionals and leadership.”

The contract is valued at $985m and covers five years, with the option for a five-year renewal.

The scope of work includes scaffolding and insulation, as well as asbestos and lead abatement.

Mobilisation is expected by the end of this month.

D&Z maintenance and construction president John McCormick said: “As the nation's leading maintenance and modifications provider to the power industry, D&Z is best positioned to deliver innovation, a cost-effective and flexible delivery model, and safe and reliable, quality services to TVA.

“With our more than 25 years of experience working with TVA, we've grown to be part of the fabric of the region.”

In 2022, D&Z's Maintenance and Construction division won an $18m contract for the Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s Material Plasma Exposure eXperiment Facilities Enhancement Project in Tennessee.
