The rest stops are located across six key routes within the city.

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed the construction of ten out of 16 truck rest stops, in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).

This initiative is part of an effort to improve road safety and manage the flow of heavy vehicle traffic more effectively.

The newly constructed rest stops are located across six routes within Dubai, United Arab Emirates, including Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Emirates Road, Al Awir Road, and more.

The rest areas, which collectively span more than 75,000m², are designed to reduce truck-related incidents by providing drivers with safe and convenient places to rest.

The operational capacity of these stops exceeds 5,000 trucks and heavy vehicles, with 700 parking slots available.

Each rest area measures between 5,000m² and 10,000m²  and can accommodate 30 to 45 trucks and heavy vehicles.

These allow truck drivers to rest during traffic bans on certain highways and meet the growing demand for truck parking spaces in the region, stated RTA director general and board of executive directors chair Mattar Al Tayer.

The amenities at these rest stops include service areas, prayer rooms, diesel refuelling stations, and restrooms for drivers.

Furthermore, the rest stops are expected to raise traffic awareness among truck drivers and prevent the parking of trucks on main roads and in residential areas.

Al Tayer said: “The partnership with ADNOC in constructing and operating rest areas for trucks and heavy vehicles reinforces Dubai's position as a global logistics hub.

“This collaboration also enhances the safety and well-being of drivers by providing necessary amenities and services for their daily needs.”

In 2023, the RTA and ADNOC signed an agreement to construct and operate an integrated truck rest area near Emirates Road, next to Al Tayy Racetrack.

This station covers an area of more than 76,000m² and has the capacity to accommodate 150 vehicles.
