The UK's Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) has awarded a contract to the Lagan Iacovou joint venture (JV) to construct new homes in Cyprus.

The 138-house project is intended for use by service personnel and their families stationed at Dhekelia Station.

It was funded by Strategic Command and implemented through the Defence Capital Infrastructure Programme.

The Lagan Iacovou JV will deliver this £48m project as part of the APOLLO extended programme of work, which has been designed to improve the resilience of UK military assets located in Cyprus.

The project will feature three- and four-bedroom residences that have all been designed to be sustainable, with amenities such as solar panels, air-source heat pumps, and electric vehicle (EV) charging ports.

These new homes have also been conceived to be seismically compatible, or in other words, capable of enduring earthquakes.

Green, shaded spaces for communities will be created in front of the properties whilst service roads will provide access to the rear.

DIO Major Programmes and International Projects head David Graham said: “We are very happy to be working collaboratively with our technical partners Ramboll and our Overseas Framework contractor Lagan Iacovou JV in this delivery.

“This investment highlights DIO and UK Strategic Command’s commitment to providing safe, high-quality homes for our service personnel and their families.”

The site will accommodate an additional 11 units next year.
