DC01UK has submitted plans for a data centre construction project in Hertsmere, Hertfordshire, which is anticipated to be one of the UK's largest data centre campuses.

The proposed facility is expected to provide up to two million square feet of floor space located adjacent to roadways and close to fibre optic routes.

With a reserved power capacity of 400MV-amperes from the National Grid, the facility is expected to be operational by 2029.

In alignment with Hertsmere Borough Council's net-zero strategy, the construction of DC01UK will focus on delivering low-carbon buildings and on-site renewable power generation.

The plan also includes increasing net biodiversity on the site by at least 10%, with more than half of the site area being preserved as open, green space.

The construction of the data centre is estimated to be worth approximately £3.75bn ($4.92bn) and is projected to support at least 500 jobs during its construction phase.

Once operational, it is expected to offer at least 200 new permanent local jobs.

It is projected to generate approximately £1.1bn per annum in gross value added, indirectly supporting an additional 13,700 job opportunities across the UK in various sectors.

A DC01UK spokesperson said: “The ambition for this project is to build the next generation of national digital infrastructure to power the needs of tomorrow.

“This project would put Hertfordshire at the forefront of one of the most technologically exciting projects in Europe and lead the world in setting the gold standard for the next generation of high-tech infrastructure."
