Work on the Department of Public Works and Highways’ (DPWH) Davao River Bridge Project in Davao City has reached 32.13% completion.

This milestone marks progress on the construction of a 1.34km, four-lane, six-span extradosed bridge and its approach roads across the Davao River.

The project commenced in November 2023.

Civil works currently underway for the bridge consist of the installation of rebars for pier columns and crossbeams, as well as the placement of scaffolding in preparation for the bridge deck construction.

Additionally, steel sheet pile driving for cofferdamming and bored piling activities are said to be advancing according to schedule.

Funded by the Philippine government and a China Aid Grant, the bridge construction is valued at 3.126bn pesos ($53.33m).

DPWH senior undersecretary Emil K Sadain along with Unified Project Management Office - Bridges Management Cluster (UPMO-BMC) Project director Rodrigo Delos Reyes, inspected the ongoing construction.

Sadain said: “With active project supervision and management by UPMO-BMC Bucana Bridge Project Team headed by acting project manager Norifel Teddie Cadiang and project engineer John Christian Gaden and the dedication of our partners at China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), we are confident in meeting our target to open the bridge to traffic by end of 2025.”

This initiative forms part of the 'Build Better More' agenda under Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr's administration.

It is expected to complement the Davao City Coastal Road upon its completion, fostering improved mobility, connectivity, and economic opportunities for the Davao Region.

Earlier this month, the DPWH initiated a new project by breaking ground on a 12-storey building at the Cavite State University-Bacoor City Campus in Barangay Molino 3.
