South Korea-based automotive seating manufacturer DAS has announced its plans to construct a $35m manufacturing facility in Metter, Georgia, US.

The facility will mainly manufacture car seat structures. To be located in the Candler County Industrial Park, it is slated to begin operations in the second part of next year.

DAS expects to create around 300 jobs at this new plant, and the US state will provide funding to train the workers.

According to Candler County Industrial Authority executive director Hannah Mullins, the DAS factory will feature an area of 200,000ft², reported AP.

With this facility, the company intends to supply cat seat structures to a new Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America near Savannah.

DAS COO Sean Kim said: “The strategic location near prominent cities like Savannah and Macon, facilitating convenient access, played a pivotal role in our decision-making process.

“Looking ahead to future expansion prospects, we deemed Metter to be an ideal location in anticipation of its role as a global electric vehicle production hub thanks to its close proximity to Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America.”

Hyundai’s $7.5bn electric vehicle (EV) and battery assembly facility, which was announced last year, is set to start production in 2025.

DAS is also a key supplier for Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia.

Georgia governor Brian Kemp said: “Suppliers for the Hyundai Metaplant resulted in over $2bn in investment last fiscal year, alone, helping Georgia achieve a third straight year of record-breaking economic growth.”
