Construction company Cooper & Oxley Group has been contracted to construct a teaching block for the primary school students at Halls Creek School in Western Australia (WA).

This new block will consist of six new classrooms, an activity space, a storeroom, and toilets.

Additionally, the administration space will be renovated with a new conference area, interview room, and lobby space.

This renovation is expected to offer updated conference areas for parents, as well as many agencies and organisations that serve the school.

WA Education Minister Tony Buti said: “The Cook Government is committed to investing in state-of-the-art education facilities to help Western Australian students reach their potential.

“This extensive redevelopment is exciting for the entire school community and once completed will benefit staff and students for years to come.

“The school currently has almost 350 students so I’m sure these upgrades and additions to the facilities will be most welcome by staff and students.”

Construction works are slated to begin this month, with an estimated project completion at the beginning of the 2025 academic year.

Australia-based MPS Architects is overseeing the design of the new facilities in collaboration with the school community.

The WA Government has allocated A$626.7m ($405m) in 2023-2024, supporting around 200 projects in the state.

Kimberley MLA Divina D’Anna said: “The Halls Creek school redevelopment was a key election commitment I made in 2021, and I am very excited to see this important project reaching another milestone towards completion.

“I am a strong believer that regional and remote students should have equal access to quality education, and this A$13m project will give Halls Creek students and the community great new facilities to learn and grow.”

Investment in the infrastructure and energy & utilities sectors remains a major driver of overall construction growth

Infrastructure and Energy & Utilities sectors expanded in 2020 despite COVID-19 disruptions, which reflected the efforts by governments and public institutions to accelerate investment to stimulate activity. The recovery from the pandemic and the easing of restrictions allowed the resumption of work on major projects in 2021, and growth is set to remain strong in the coming years, particularly given major investment programs in the US and China.
