Conti Federal to build B-21 weapon loader training facility

The facility will be built in place of the base's Pride Hangar via a renovation process.

Construction and engineering contractor for the US federal government Conti Federal Services has been awarded a contract to build a B-21 weapon loader training facility at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota, US.

The contract was awarded by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Omaha District and is valued at approximately $43.9m.

This B-21 weapon loader training facility is part of a multiyear development beddown strategy for the B-21 programme.

The scope of the project comprises the renovation of the base’s Pride Hangar, which was initially intended to store B-36 aircraft, into advanced weapons loader training bays alongside storage for aircraft fuselage mock-ups.

The development also involves the refurbishment of administrative, training, and utilities sections at the site, which will improve the facility’s overall operation and efficiency.

Conti Federal Regional Business development director Ryan Kanzleiter said: “This contract award win shows our commitment to supporting the national defence infrastructure of the B-21 beddown programme at Ellsworth Air Force Base and furthers our partnership with the local trade community.

“We look forward to continuing our commitment and collaboration with the USACE Omaha District and other key stakeholders to ensure the successful completion of this vital training facility, further solidifying our role in shaping a safer and stronger future for our nation.”

Construction works are expected to be finished by September 2025.

In February this year, Conti Federal secured a contract worth $8.4m to renovate the US Air Force Maintenance Hangar building #1643 at the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth, Texas, US.

South-East Asia Construction Market Dynamics

Per GlobalData analysis, the South-East Asia construction industry in 2023 is dominated by Indonesia, though the country will see a slowdown compared to 2022 due to elevated building material prices, weak commercial property demand, high interest rates and a softening of external demand. The construction industry in the Philippines is estimated to register a AAGR of 7.2% between 2024 and 2027, supported by the government’s focus on the development of the country’s rail and road transport and energy infrastructure.
