Upon completion, the bridge is set to substantially benefit around two million people in the region.

The construction of the fourth bridge over the Panama Canal is behind schedule, with only 17% to 18% of the work reportedly completed to date.

Newsroom Panama has reported that Panama Minister of Public Works José Luis Andrade has acknowledged the slow pace of construction on the fourth bridge over the canal.

He noted that despite the slow progress, a significant turnover of between $20m and $25m is anticipated this March in order to keep the project on track for its August 2028 completion.

For the current year, projections indicate that between $250m and $300m will be allocated for the advancement of the construction process.

These funds are seen as crucial for maintaining the project timeline and ensuring the bridge meets the growing infrastructure demands of the region.

Upon completion, the fourth bridge over the Panama Canal is expected to substantially benefit approximately two million people, particularly in the area's western sector.

The demand for improved road infrastructure is escalating in this region to facilitate commutes from Panama City, the country's capital.

The most challenging phase of the bridge construction began on 12 December, focusing on the first permanent pier of one of the two main towers, known as Tower H, located in the eastern area.

This pier is said to be a pivotal component, as it will provide support for the cables of the cable-stayed bridge.

Two H towers are set to be constructed for the bridge: one on the east side at Arenera and another on the west side at Veracruz.

The main span of the bridge, measuring 965m, will have its load distributed between these two towers, with each tower spreading the weight across its dual legs.
