Morgan Sindall Construction has achieved a significant construction milestone with the topping out of Clover Leys Spencer Academy in the UK.

The event was attended by representatives from Spencer Academies Trust, Derbyshire County Council, SCAPE, project manager Concertus, and more.

The new facility, which has been procured through SCAPE’s direct-award National Construction framework, is set to provide 210 primary spaces for children aged four to 11.

Concertus is overseeing the design of the school.

To accommodate the construction process and minimise disruption to local education, Morgan Sindall and Derbyshire County Council have established a Temporary Learning Village at the site of Chellaston Academy.

The next phase of the project will focus on the internal construction of the school.

This comprises three primary and four junior classrooms, a main hall and studio, a library, group rooms, and teaching administration areas.

Additionally, the school will have an all-weather multiuse games area, an early years play area, and an outdoor teaching space.

Funded by Derbyshire County Council and developer contributions, the £9m ($11.44m) school is expected to open for the September term this year.

The Clover Leys Spencer Academy project has already contributed more than £1.1m in social value.

Morgan Sindall Construction Midlands area director Richard Fielding said: “We are proud to be part of Derbyshire County Council's vision for educational development in the area. Through our collaboration with Concertus and other partners, we are committed to delivering high-quality facilities like Clover Leys Spencer Academy that support the council's strategic plan.

“It has been a privilege to continue our collaboration with the Spencer Academies Trust, and to work with Derbyshire County Council and the existing school community to ensure minimal disruption while carrying out this brilliant project.”

Morgan Sindall Construction has previously delivered projects for Spencer Academies Trust, having completed four schools.

The company is also currently working on Rushcliffe Spencer Academy, a new-build and expansion project that will create 560 new student places at the West Bridgford school.

Earlier this month, Morgan Sindall Construction’s North West team completed the refurbishment of the ground floor of the existing Greenbank Building at the University of Central Lancashire.
