CIP and Viviid begin construction of onshore wind project in India

The move is aligned with an agreement between the two to develop at least 1.8GW of renewable energy projects in the country.

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has announced the commencement of construction on an onshore wind project in Karnataka, India.

The development follows after CIP, through its Growth Markets Fund I (CI GMF I), reached a final investment decision on the project.

The project is being developed in partnership with Viviid Renewables, an Indian developer and balance-of-plant (BoP) service provider.

The 300MW Hatalageri onshore wind project marks the first project to be jointly constructed by the two companies.

Construction of the wind farm is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

Viviid will contribute BoP works and services and will also hold a minority ownership stake in the project.

This venture is part of a broader framework agreement between CIP and Viviid established in January 2023 to develop at least 1.8GW of renewable energy projects in India over the coming years.

The partnership is already progressing with additional project developments, which will be supported by CI GMF I’s successor fund, CI GMF II.

Since its entry into the Indian market in 2021, CIP has been actively forming partnerships, including with AmpIn Energy Transition.

Additionally, CIP is exploring opportunities in adjacent technologies such as offshore/nearshore wind and hydrogen, to further its renewable energy portfolio in the country.
