Chromalox to upgrade and expand Ogden factory in Utah

The building is expected to achieve LEED Gold status via environmental updates.

October 26 2023

American electric thermal technology provider Chromalox has announced its plans to upgrade and expand its manufacturing facility in Ogden, Utah, US.

The expansion plan of this Ogden-based facility is being carried out in association with Utah’s Weber County Economic Development Office.

The factory develops thermal electric heating technology utilised for sustainable heating applications in industrial and commercial installations across the world.

Chromalox says it aims to provide its clients with highly efficient, flexible, and scalable electric heating solutions in order to gradually decarbonise process heating, steam generation, and temperature control technologies.

EK Bailey Construction will oversee this significant expansion project, which carries an investment of $58m from Chromalox.

Upon completion, the new facility is expected to be Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Gold (LEED) certified.

The expansion project will see increased site capacity, job creation, and the advancement of new manufacturing technology while implementing key systems per Spirax-Sarco Engineering’s One Planet Sustainability Strategy.

Furthermore, the facility is investing heavily in a ground-source heat pump system that will efficiently heat and cool the building year-round by using sustainable geothermal energy.

High-efficiency systems and LED lights will be added to minimise water use and enhance recycling.

Weber County commissioner Gage Froerer said: “This upgrade and expansion will increase sustainability and biodiversity at Chromalox’s Weber County facility and is a proactive step in enriching our community.

“We look forward to working with Chromalox as a global leader in paving the way in thermal electric heating technology.”

Construction works are set to be completed by the end of next year.
