Finland-based technical solutions provider Caverion has been selected to carry out three power line projects in the Helsinki metropolitan region of the country.

Selected by Fingrid, the combined value of the projects is listed at €8.5m.

Caverion industry segment head Elina Engman said: “We serve our customers from the power station to building substations and electricity transmission.

“In the energy transformation, there is demand for our expertise, and we are delighted to respond to it in these projects in the Helsinki metropolitan area as well.”

The projects include power line modifications in Espoo's Hepokorvi district, including the construction of three landscape electricity pylons.

An optical ground wire will also be installed between the Espoo and Tammisto substations.

Additionally, Caverion will be responsible for building two sets of 110kV power lines between Kopula and Hankasalo and employing power line adjustments in Nurmijärvi.

The projects are expected to enhance electricity transmission between the aforementioned areas, ensuring a secure supply within the Helsinki metropolitan area, as well as helping Espoo attain its climate-related objectives in the process.

Fingrid project manager Tommi Raussi said: “The projects safeguard electricity transmission in the Helsinki metropolitan area, as well as the supply of power to data centres being built. Microsoft’s data centre and Fortum’s heat pump station will be connected to the Hepokorvi substation.

“The Kopula power lines will electrify the data centre area being built for the Rosti Business Park in southern Nummela. Data centre operators have standards for reliability, which require building a power line connection to a grid substation.”
