Airport City and Maru Ehitus have entered into a design-and-build contract for a cargo terminal at Tallinn Airport’s southern side, Estonia.

The companies say they plan to work closely throughout the project to ensure its seamless execution and the delivery of a high-quality outcome.

The estimated cost of the project is €8m ($8.71m), covering the construction of the cargo terminal itself and the development of associated infrastructure.

The project intends to deliver a logistics centre to meet international standards and boost the volume of goods handled at the airport.

Construction is scheduled to begin in the coming months, with completion anticipated in mid-2025.

The facility will cover a net area of 5,250m², including 1,450m² dedicated to office space and 3,800m² for warehouse operations.

It will feature loading bays for 57 vehicles and 123 parking spaces for employees and visitors.

Airport City management board chair Teet Raudsep said: “This is a notable milestone in the broader plans for Airport City, as the cargo terminal is the first project we’ll be working on as part of the diverse, long-term development of the business park.”

Airport City, Tallinn’s closest business park, aims to create a business hub for companies in the aviation industry that benefit from proximity to the airport and its runway.

The location of the business park near Tallinn Airport is anticipated to foster synergy between the aviation sector and various business fields.

Maru Ehitus management board chair Margo Dengo said: “Our mission is to build the sort of tomorrow we ourselves want to live in. For us, that’s based in innovation and sustainability.

“It’s an honour for us to partner with Airport City in constructing this innovative cargo terminal, since they’re prepared to go the extra mile to achieve sustainability, having set their sights on a LEED [Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design] Silver certificate for the building.”
