Bowman Consulting Group, an engineering services company, has secured contracts from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to provide engineering services for several key transportation infrastructure projects across Virginia.
The company will work on tasks including survey, right-of-way (ROW), and utility relocation engineering for 13 separate projects.
The assignments feature projects such as the I-64 Hampton Roads Express Lanes (HREL 1A), a group of five intersection improvements in Albemarle County, and seven bridge improvement projects in the Bristol and Salem districts.
Bowman Consulting Group chairman and CEO Gary Bowman said: “Bowman has a long-standing reputation in the transportation infrastructure services market and with VDOT in particular. These assignments are contracted and ready to proceed and we look forward to immediately commencing delivery of quality solutions that meet the complex needs of VDOT.”
For the HREL 1A, Bowman is responsible for ROW and easement acquisition services to facilitate the widening of I-64 and I-564, in addition to utility coordination and relocation services. This project aims to repurpose a two-mile (3.21km) stretch of I-64 to improve traffic flow and safety.
In Albemarle County, Bowman will oversee ROW and survey activities for intersection enhancements, ensuring efficient utility coordination and relocations. These improvements are part of the Albemarle Bundle #2 projects.
In the Bristol and Salem districts, Bowman will manage ROW and easement acquisition for the replacement of seven bridges along with utility coordination and relocation services. Bowman's role is aimed at maintaining the long-term safety and reliability of these critical transportation links.
In January 2023, Bowman Consulting Group was appointed by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission as the prime design consultant for the Allegheny Tunnel Transportation Improvement Project.
