Argenteuil Hospital in Paris, France, has contracted a consortium led by Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France, a subsidiary of Bouygues Construction, to modernise its facilities.

This consortium includes Inéo for the electrical, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, and plumbing work packages, and Premys for the demolition phases.

Bouygues Construction holds a €129m ($143.07m) share of the total cost of the infrastructure works, which amounts to €235m.

The project will develop a single 77,000m² building, consolidating all the care activities that are currently spread across different buildings on the hospital site.

The modernisation plan, by Brunet Saunier & Associés with BaSo Architectures, is scheduled to unfold in two phases over six years.

The initial phase, a 30,000m² extension to the existing Madeleine Brès building, is projected to finish by April 2027.

Following this, the second phase will add approximately 28,000m², with an expected completion in July 2030.

The development includes a new emergency department designed to handle 100,000 admissions annually, more than 500 beds and spaces, and an upgraded third-level maternity unit.

Furthermore, the intensive care and critical care departments will be centralised, enhancing the hospital's capacity to manage public health crises.

Bouygues Bâtiment France executive vice-president Albin Dargery said: “This project to modernise the Centre Hospitalier d'Argenteuil is a major component of our corporate mission. Building for life means constructing state-of-the-art hospital infrastructures, modern and adapted to the needs of patients and medical staff.

“Our ambition is to make the Nouvel Hôpital d'Argenteuil a benchmark facility combining innovation, performance and respect for the environment.”

The hospital's external environment will also see improvements, with 7,000m² dedicated to green spaces, aligning with BiodiverCity certification standards.

The updated hospital is also focusing on sustainability, reusing existing structures to save 3,200 tonnes of concrete and recycling 97% of demolition materials, among others.

In July this year, Bouygues reported a net profit attributable to the group of $201.1m for the first half of 2024.
