The Bouygues UK-Equitix consortium has been named as the preferred development partner for a student accommodation project in London, England, UK.

The consortium, which includes the development arms of both Bouygues UK and Equitix, was selected by the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

It will be responsible for the investment and development of 2,000 new student homes, which will be located in London’s Bankside, behind the Tate Modern art gallery.

LSE Estates director Julian Robinson said: “This new building will form a key part of the LSE brand and identity. We will be looking for an exemplary piece of civic architecture which is affordable for all LSE students, focuses on environmental sustainability, health and well-being and offers an outstanding student experience.”

Construction on the project will commence in 2026 and is scheduled for completion in 2030.

The LSE, which is said to be a carbon-neutral university, and the consortium will now work together to select a design team and will seek planning proposals in early 2025.

The new hall will also feature dining facilities, to allow the student community to eat and socialise in one space.

Furthermore, the LSE Students Union and Bouygues' residential life team will develop a residential life programme to ensure a sense of community in the hall. They will also develop ties with the local community in Bankside throughout the process.

Equitix CEO Hugh Crossley said: “We will aim to achieve multiple objectives with sustainability at its core, a focus on student well-being, an appreciation of the institution’s history and its location at the very heart of London and developing what will become a lasting legacy for generations.”
