Bird Construction has been awarded five projects with a combined value of more than C$575m ($418.61m) across Canada.

The company secured a civil and concrete package for Dow’s Path2Zero project, an initiative to create the world's first net-zero petrochemical facility.

In late 2023, Dow Chemical announced an investment of C$6.5bn in the Path2Zero project, aiming to retrofit and expand its manufacturing site in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.

The project is set to reduce Dow’s global ethylene capacity emissions by approximately 20% and increase polyethylene supply by around 15%.

Meanwhile, the 2NationsBird joint venture, a collaborative effort between Bird, Willow Cree Developments, and FLFN Ventures, has been awarded work for the foundations and underground utilities at SaskPower’s Aspen Power Station project.

This 370MW power station is expected to bolster renewable power generation and provide reliable power in Saskatchewan.

Also, Bird’s maintenance, repair, and operations team won a five-year master service agreement with a longstanding client.

This is in line with the company's aim of diversifying its sector presence and expanding services within its core geographies.

Following the completion of the first year, Bird’s team has been awarded a second year of work under the Port Hope Area Initiative Master Construction Contract by Canadian Nuclear Laboratories.

Additionally, the Bird British Columbia (BC) Buildings team has been chosen for another long-term care project in BC.

Bird president and CEO Teri McKibbon said: “We continue to grow our diverse portfolio with projects spanning multiple sectors, with healthy contributions from multiyear recurring revenue awards. Our proven track record in successfully delivering early works on major industrial projects strategically positions us to pursue full project life cycle opportunities.

“With robust demand in our target sectors, we remain disciplined in our project selection and focused on delivering strong performance through 2024 and beyond, with ongoing value creation for our shareholders.”

Recently, Bird Construction reported a net income of C$21.39m for the second quarter of 2024.
