StarBigBloc Building Material, a division of BigBloc Construction, has secured a land parcel in Madhya Pradesh, India, to set up a new manufacturing plant.

The upcoming facility in Indore is designed to produce autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) blocks, a move that will bolster the company's presence in the state and adjacent areas, reported PTI.

AAC blocks, which are made from materials such as cement, sand, fly ash, and water, are used in the construction industry.

The company has invested Rs60m ($0.69m) in approximately 57,500m² of land in Khargone, Madhya Pradesh.

StarBigBloc Building Material currently operates a plant in Kheda near Ahmedabad with an annual capacity of 250,000m³, catering to regions including Gujarat, Rajasthan, and parts of Madhya Pradesh.

The plant's capacity utilisation stood at 75% for the third quarter (Q3) of the 2024-25 financial period (FY24-25).

BigBloc Construction chair Narayan Saboo said: "The proposed expansion in Indore aligns with our growth strategy, focusing on geographic expansion, R&D [research and development] investments, and product diversification."

BigBloc Construction has recently expanded into construction chemicals, introducing products such as block jointing mortar, ready mix plaster, and tile adhesives to capitalise on high-demand market segments.

In May 2024, the board of directors approved fundraising initiatives such as an SME IPO or preferential issue, to support the expansion plans of StarBigBloc Building Material, reported ETRealty.com.

The company's strategy is to increase its production capacity from the current 250,000m³ per annum to over 1.2 million cubic metres within the next four to five years.

This week, Mahindra Lifespace Developers, part of the Mahindra Group, entered into a partnership with Livingstone Infra for a redevelopment project in the Mahalaxmi area of Mumbai, India.

The project has a reported gross development value of $190m and is located in a prime neighbourhood in South Mumbai.
