British developer Beech Holdings has been granted planning permission for its Sheffield Gardens build-to-rent scheme in Yorkshire, UK.

The Sheffield Gardens project marks the second venture for Beech Holdings outside of its home city.

Beech Holdings CEO Stephen Beech said: “This is a significant development for Beech Holdings, our very first in Yorkshire and second outside of our home city of Manchester.

“We always look to regenerate where we can; this unused and unloved commercial site is in exactly the location we want to breathe new life into.”

The project, with a gross development value of £55m ($68.50m), is set to provide 158 new homes, ranging from one to three-bedroom apartments.

It will offer a variety of amenities, including a private gym, an external landscaped courtyard, and rooftop gardens.

The scheme is being supported by consultant The Cummings Group, architect Leach Rhodes Walker, sustainability expert Hydrock, and planning consultant Urbana.

Works are scheduled to commence in the fourth quarter (Q4) of this year, which will involve the demolition of the existing unused commercial buildings on the site.

Beech Holdings plans to retain long-term control of the Sheffield Gardens scheme, ensuring full property management and a commitment to the local community.

The project is expected to create at least ten permanent jobs, in addition to more than 100 jobs during its construction phase.

Beech Holdings is also progressing with its first development in Newcastle, which is anticipated to be completed between June and August this year.

With these developments, the company is set to deliver or plan for more than 1,000 apartments across Sheffield, Newcastle, and Manchester.

Beech Holdings development director Neil Baumber said: “We are actively looking at other sites in Sheffield, we feel we can offer the standard of accommodation that local people desire. We’ll be getting to work quickly in the final quarter of this year.
