Esh Construction, in collaboration with Together Housing, has celebrated the completion of the Beech Hill affordable housing project in Halifax, England, UK.

The project involved the demolition of three derelict tower blocks to make way for 106 new homes, designed to cater to a range of needs, with energy efficiency and accessibility at the forefront.

The new homes at Beech Hill include a mix of two-, three-, four-, and five-bedroom properties, all with an energy performance certificate rating of B.

Additionally, five of these homes are fully wheelchair accessible.

Esh Construction operations director Simon Woodward said: “Redeveloping this site and providing much-needed new, high-quality homes for the community has been very rewarding. A number of challenges have been overcome throughout the project, particularly those presented by the topography of the land with the lower site lying 20m below the upper site.

“This resulted in extensive remediation and enabling works being undertaken, as well as retaining systems being installed. We’re proud of the final result and look forward to working with Together Housing again in the future.”

The dual-phased redevelopment is an initiative of The Calderdale and Together Housing Investment Partnership.

This partnership was set up in 2017 to tackle the housing crisis by delivering around 650 affordable homes in Calderdale over a five-year span from 2018 to 2023.

The Beech Hill project has had a range of investment sources, including Calderdale Council, Together Housing, and the UK government's Getting Building Fund through the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.

It also secured backing from the government Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Estate Regeneration, Homes England, and WYCA via the Leeds City Region Growth Deal.

In July this year, Esh Construction began work on the first phase of an affordable housing development at Seaham Garden Village in County Durham.
