The station is expected for completion by the end of 2025.

UK-based Network Rail has awarded construction engineering company J Murphy & Sons two contracts to build the new Beaulieu Park railway station in Chelmsford, UK.

These contracts were awarded following a recent agreement between Network Rail and Essex County Council to develop a new station.

The scope of this £124m contract includes building a new station on behalf of Chelmsford City Council and Essex County Council.

J Murphy & Sons Transportation managing director Chris Cayton said: “Significant progress has been made by the Murphy team over the past few months, including modification to the rail systems, groundworks and piling for the station building.

“In the coming months residents will see their new station take shape, as the platforms are constructed, and the steelwork is erected, ahead of major commissioning of the railway infrastructure at Christmas.”

The new station will feature three platforms with a central loop line and new tracks to allow high-speed trains to pass through unimpeded; step-free entry to all platforms via two lifts; accessible toilets, baby-changing facilities, a waiting area, as well as retail and catering space.

The new station will have updated ticketing facilities with ticket vending machines and a gate line.

This project will also feature pedestrian and cycle paths to the station and 500 spots for bike parking and storage; a bus interchange with bus stands; a pick-up and drop-off area with taxi bays; and a car park for more than 700 cars.

Beaulieu Park station is expected to be complete by the end of 2025.

Upon completion, Greater Anglia will manage the station and provide train services into London with its new train fleet.

Network Rail Anglia route director Katie Frost said: “Beaulieu Park station is an excellent example of what the railway industry can do when working in partnership with local organisations to improve the railway for the benefit of communities and businesses by delivering a new station for the Beaulieu community.”

First movers have a clear advantage and could be seen as leading metaverse adopters in the construction market

The construction industry has large and complex sites to manage, strict project deadlines, hazardous working conditions, and tight profit margins. It is also under increasing pressure to improve its ESG credentials and digitalize. The three primary use cases for the metaverse in the construction industry are training, building information modeling (BIM) renders, and collaborative creation, though its adoption is still in its infancy.
