British infrastructure company Balfour Beatty has secured a contract to build a new campus at Liberton High School in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK.

Awarded by the City of Edinburgh Council, this contract carries a value of £67m.

The company will design and construct this new 13,470m² campus, which will encompass community amenities such as an advanced synthetic sports pitch, a library, and a café.

Balfour will also develop multiple new areas for biodiversity on the site as part of its ‘Building New Futures’ sustainability strategy.

According to the company, the campus is set to be its first Passivhaus-certified building.

The site's construction will see the use of high-performance windows and doors, as well as mechanical ventilation with heat recovery systems to lower carbon emissions, enhance indoor air quality, and lower overall energy consumption and bills.

Balfour Scotland managing director Hector MacAulay MBE said: “Throughout construction, we will work hard to give back to the local community, creating and delivering new construction-based educational pathways which will equip students with the skills and experience they need for a lasting, fulfilling career in our sector.”

Construction work is set to begin later this year and is expected to be completed in 2026.

Balfour is aiming to employ approximately 120 young people during the construction phase. These positions will include apprenticeship, graduate, and trainee jobs.
