Balfour Beatty Communities has broken ground on a multiphase development project to build new homes at the Fort Hamilton Family Homes community based in New York, US.

The project is being undertaken in partnership with the US Army at Fort Hamilton.

It includes the construction of three homes for 'senior leaders' at the Fort Hamilton base housing community, replacing older units that have been demolished.

Balfour Beatty Communities Renovation and Construction senior vice-president Sean Kent said: “At Balfour Beatty Communities, it’s our mission to deliver quality communities that service members and their families are proud to call home.

“In keeping our commitment, we are proud to launch this project to enhance the community and improve the quality of life of those serving our country.”

The new homes will offer views of New York Harbour and the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge.

The residencies will be built using fibre cement siding for increased durability and include architectural shingles and metal roofs.

The homes will also feature two-car garages, granite countertops, and stainless-steel appliances while their flooring will comprise a mix of engineered hardwood, tile, and carpet.

Additionally, a new community playground will be built as part of the project.

Construction of the homes is due to start this month and be finished in September 2024.

Balfour Beatty Communities has previously worked with the US Department of Defense on the Military Housing Privatization Initiative, under which this contract falls under.

Through this initiative, it has built more than 14,000 new homes and renovated another 15,000 housing units.

Balfour Beatty Communities will be responsible for financing, developing, renovating, and operating these projects for a minimum of 50 years as part of this scheme.
