The Philippine Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has provided a construction update on the Bagong Tondo Sports Complex Project in Manila, Philippines.

The DPWH said that the second phase of the project is currently on track and will be completed in the first quarter (Q1) of next year.

The scope of this project includes the development of superstructures such as columns, beams, and suspended slabs per floor.

Works also involve plumbing, sewage, electrical, and air conditioning installation.

The value of this contract is 133m pesos ($2.4m).

In a report to DPWH secretary Manuel Bonoan, DPWH National Capital Region director Loreta Malaluan noted that Phase 2 of the project is now 38% finished. Civil works began in April this year.

The DPWH North Manila District Engineering Office, led by district engineer Gerard Opulencia, is accelerating civil work.

Malaluan said: “A new Tondo Sports Complex with complete facilities will be able to bring together people with shared interests and encourage an active and healthy lifestyle to the residents.”

Phase 1 of the project, which cost 82.02m pesos, was completed in 2021.

The phase included the foundation and substructures of the building such as its footings, pile caps, and micropiles.

Another 10m pesos, proposed under Phase 3 for site development, will be used for the further development of the Tondo Sports Complex.

Upon conclusion, the sports complex will have a gym, a multipurpose outdoor area, an indoor basketball court, and a conference room with an overall building area of 3,360m².
