Avangrid has revealed plans to construct Pontotoc Wind, its first renewable energy project in Oklahoma, US.

The 147.5MW wind farm features 33 turbines and is set to power more than 40,000 homes in Pontotoc County.

The wind farm is expected to generate approximately 500,000MWh of power annually.  

It is set to create more than 200 jobs and contribute to the local community for more than two decades via community investment.

The project is also expected to contribute an estimated $25m in property taxes throughout its lifespan, benefiting local schools and services.  

Construction is scheduled to begin this year. Completion of the project will mark the expansion of Avangrid's operations to 25 US states. 

Avangrid collaborated with the US Air Force over multiple years to situate the project in an area that safeguards the service's mission. 

Avangrid CEO Pedro Azagra said: “We are thrilled to be developing our first renewable energy project in Oklahoma, that will deliver clean, renewable, wind power to the Pontotoc County community along with jobs and local investment. 

“With Pontotoc Wind, we are helping to accelerate a clean energy transition in the state and across the US.” 

A sustainable energy company and member of the Iberdrola Group, Avangrid currently has more than 8.6GW of installed renewable capacity.
