Autodesk has announced the global launch of its cloud-based solution, Informed Design, designed to optimise the building design and construction process.

This tool is designed to facilitate industrialised construction by applying manufacturing principles to the built environment.

The solution seeks to support the transformation of the architecture, engineering, construction, and operations (AECO) industry.

It enables architects to use customisable building products for accurate results and manufacturers to share their products with design stakeholders.

Autodesk Informed Design director and general manager Ryan McMahon said: “Autodesk Informed Design connects design and make from day one and brings industrialised construction workflows to reality.

“As a result, projects are completed quicker, with higher quality and generate less waste."

Autodesk's Informed Design is a part of the company's Design and Make Platform environment.

The environment includes cloud-connected software solutions that unite teams, data, and workflows across entire project life cycles.

The platform is intended to deliver improved outcomes more efficiently.

The solution is now available globally as a free add-on for two of Autodesk's industry solutions.

Autodesk Informed Design for Revit is for design professionals, enabling them to work with manufacturable building products, ensuring certainty and quality in their designs.

Meanwhile, Autodesk Informed Design for Inventor is designed for product managers and engineers, streamlining the design and manufacturing process.

The Inventor 2024 add-on facilitates collaboration with designers by creating parametric models of building products and ensuring the use of compliant versions.

Construction technology company Green Canopy NODE is noted to have been using the early-access versions of both Informed Design for Revit and Informed Design for Inventor.

Green Canopy NODE senior product manager Benjamin Hall said: “Autodesk Informed Design has shown that there's a way to bring customised details, good aesthetics and quality engineering into a product that can be mass-produced.”
